The 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6 DC lens was exclusively designed to suit the characteristics of digital SLR cameras. Ideal as a standard starter zoom lens, this lens provides an equivalent range of approx. 28-80mm when used with a Canon digital SLR camera (*). The use of aspherical lenses provides correction for various aberrations throughout the entire zoom range and produce a high level of optical performance.
DC lenses are exclusively designed for digital SLR cameras. The image circle (rear of lens) is made to match the smaller dimensions used for the image sensor on digital cameras. As a result these lenses are also more compact and lightweight, and are better matched to digital SLR cameras.

I bought this lens based on a number of reviews on a couple sites. I had an 18-55 lens already but not a Wide Angle lens like this... the item arrived, and I took some time to try out the lens. I was greatly disappointed in it's wide angle ability. The pictures it takes are identical to the pictures my other lens (not a Wide Angle lens) take. If you just want a cheap standard lens, this is fine. If you're looking for something to take Wide Angle shots, look somewhere else, because this lens won't do it.
To top it all off, I chose a seller with a 15% restocking fee and the shipping isn't refundable... so it's not even worth returning. I essentially purchased a $100 paperweight that will only become useful if my current lens (A canon 18-55 that is much nicer) breaks.

Bought this lens after I broke the original 18-55 lens of my EOS Rebel xTi. The official Canon replacement was ridiculously overpriced, so I got this one. Works just fine! I can't evaluate the new lens in technical terms, I don't notice any differences between the new and old lens, except this one looks a lot more solidly built. Same filter size.

I got this lens for my new Canon 7D, as somewhat of a filler lens till I got another one, but for being less than $100 it worked like a charm, even shot a video on it, vignettes on the 50mm side, but what can you ask for for such a cheap lens

For under $100 you will not find a better lens than this. Equal to about 29mm on a Canon crop body dSLR, it is a wide angle lens. This is a very under rated lens in my opinion FOR THIS PRICE. Built well and very sharp at F8.
